I suspected it was probably just an empty concrete shell, but I still wanted to see it for myself, and actually there turned out to be more to see in there than I expected.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3792.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1047\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3792.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"797\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3792.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3792-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3792-1024x680.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3792-768x510.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There doesn&#8217;t seem to be a lot of information out there about this building, at least not that I can find. It was built around 1950 and, unlike many lighthouses that are in the shape of a tower, this one is a single storey concrete building with a short octagonal tower at one end to house the light. It&#8217;s built on a concrete platform at the end of a breakwater, but hasn&#8217;t been used in several decades, and is now covered with graffiti of various types.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3778.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1045\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3778.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"796\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3778.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3778-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3778-1024x679.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3778-768x509.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The large room underneath the light has two bay windows, as well as a sort of octagonal porch, projecting out of it. It&#8217;s mostly empty, but some very rusty metal lockers, now missing their doors, still stand against one of the walls.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3780.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1046\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3780.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"797\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3780.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3780-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3780-1024x680.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3780-768x510.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The stairs leading up to the light have gone completely. It would take climbing equipment, or at least more climbing ability than I possess, to access the upper floors now. Looking up through the opening where the spiral stairs would have been, a cylindrical metal tank is visible, along with the ladder that leads up to the actual light chamber at the very top of the building.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3769.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1043\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3769.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"1204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3769.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3769-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3769-680x1024.jpg 680w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3769-768x1156.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A corridor leads down the middle of the building, with rooms either side. On the other side is a succession of very small rooms, including this one which may originally have been the bathroom.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3760.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1042\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3760.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"796\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3760.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3760-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3760-1024x679.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/DSC_3760-768x509.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The landward end of the building contains another large room with a loading bay door. Some equipment survives here: a large cylindrical metal tank that presumably stored fuel, and the remains of an engine, including drive belts, pistons and a radiator. The remnants of various pipework and electrical wiring can be seen attached to the walls.<\/p>\n<p>Not the biggest of buildings, but a very enjoyable explore for a crisp, clear Autumn morning.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am still alive, honest!
