My first trip underground was into the Kelvindale Tunnel, at Dawsholm near the Forth and Clyde Canal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/DSC_0760.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/DSC_0760.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-729\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/DSC_0760.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/DSC_0760-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/DSC_0760-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/DSC_0760-768x1152.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kelvindale is around 200 yards long but has a curve that makes it seem longer. It was only in use for just over 20 years; from 1896 to 1920, as a part of the Caledonian Railway&#8217;s Temple branch line. The viaduct that once carried the railway across the river is long demolished, but its piers can still be seen rising out of the water just to the south of the canal aqueduct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/DSC_0772.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-731\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/DSC_0772.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/DSC_0772.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/DSC_0772-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/DSC_0772-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.gcat.org.uk\/urbex\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/DSC_0772-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/a><br>There wasn&#8217;t much to see inside this tunnel, but this was the first proper tunnel exploration I&#8217;d done, so it was still quite an exhilarating experience.
