This building turned out to be a much better explore than I’d expected. While many of the industrial buildings I’ve explored in the past were essentially empty shells, with only occasional clues to their former purpose, this one was still full of (admittedly very trashed now) machinery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least, part of it was. I actually got into two buildings on the site, the first of which was indeed just an empty shell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other building was massive and filled with the remains of the industrial plant that was formerly used to manufacture insulation boards here, until it closed down a few years ago. There was also some pretty impressive graffiti, especially the face in the photo below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s been a factory on this site for over a hundred years, but it has changed hands multiple times and the final occupants only moved in in 2002.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wasn’t the only one enjoying this amazing space and its vibe of industrial dereliction that afternoon. Several other explorers were also wandering around and I think there were graffiti artists in as well. I guess that’s not surprising, considering that this building is in a busy city and is pretty easy to get inside. For safety reasons I normally try to avoid abandoned places where there are other people, but on this occasion everyone seemed friendly and stayed out of each other’s way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was a lot to see and photograph, and as I was walking round the nearby streets and taking some exterior shots afterwards, I noticed some interesting looking bits I didn’t see from the inside, so I will hopefully return for another look soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
